Cookies for Christening

Here is a pretty unique and fun fortune cookie idea that I received today from one of our customers. They held a Christening at a Chinese restaurant and used chocolate dipped fortune cookies as a favor and decoration at each place setting. Here is what they had to say:
It is kind of hard to tell, but I had white frosted and silver frosted containers with either lite blue or purple ribbon. Each container had one custom fortune cookie inside and we put one container at each place setting. The christening was at a Chinese restaurant and we used a snowflake theme. It was actually snowing the day of the event, so it worked out perfect! I put the remaining fortune cookies in a basket on the dessert table with the same color ribbons.

Thanks again for everything ! A. Panagakos

They even enclosed a picture of how cute the fortune cookie boxes turned out!
I think something similar would be great for any holiday party, corporate get-together, winter weddings, and probably others that I can't think of right now. Plus, with the added touch of your personalized messages in every custom fortune cookies, it makes you a shoe in for the most memorable decor and favors!

Fun Fortune Cookie Games

While people seem to be winning the lotto every time you turn around by using the lucky numbers from the back of their fortune cookie fortunes, fortune cookies aren't just used to "predict the future" or dispense useless wisdom anymore.

Here are some less traditional but fun uses for fortune cookie fortunes. If you have any fun ideas or ways to use fortune cookies, post them! We love hearing your ideas!

If you aren't familiar with the common joke of adding words or phrases to the end of your fortune to make it more interesting, here are some fun ones to try next time you go out for Chinese food. Add to the end of your fortune cookie message ..."in bed." With all the lame fortunes out there it really spices things up.
You are heading for a land of sunshine. (In bed!)
You should be able to make money and hold on to it. (In bed!)
Some other ones that work sometimes are adding to the end of your fortunes phrase like "in golf" "in the bathroom" and "in politics." Honestly, "in bed" is the MOST entertaining.

Fortune cookies make great ice breakers. Imagine a party or mixer situation where fortune cookie fortunes are used to cause debate, create discussion and stimulate conversation. Might be fun! They could be light-hearted, serious, authentic, political, debatable, sexual or fabricated. Anything to create buzz and get people talking.

Most recently fortune cookies have been delivering bad news instead of just useless advice. You can get xxx fortune cookies, politicians use them which makes the easy transition to fortune cookies for dogs... Not much difference there after all.

Holiday Gift List... (Early)

Stop wracking your brain for the perfect holiday gifts. That's what I'm for! Believe me I know that between all the travel, the cooking and the hard-to-buy-for people on our gift lists, sometimes the holidays can feel more like a second job than a fun time.

My family is such a challenge to shop for that I end up agonizing over what to get certain people. Gift cards a great and easy, but are also a bit too impersonal for me to feel comfortable giving, at least most of the time. So, whether you are looking for holiday gift ideas for your corporate clients, friends, co-workers, or the hard-to-buy-for family members here are some great holiday gifts.

And no, they aren't all fortune cookie related...

1. Hot Air Balloon Ride. Soaring Adventures of America offers hot-air balloon rides for an unforgettable gift. The hour-long hot air balloon rides are a breathtaking adventure as the balloon travels wherever the wind goes - beneath clouds, through mountains and valleys, and over treetops, winding rivers and waterfalls. The recipient will be taken to a designated launch site in their area, where they can watch the balloon being inflated. Rides end with a celebration toast of champagne or fruit juice upon landing, an old French tradition.

2. Giant Fortune Cookies. Give the most "fortunate" gift of all. Giant fortune cookies provide and easy and unique way to send holiday greetings, best wishes, and thoughts for the new year straight from your heart to theirs. A classic, colossal chocolate dipped giant fortune cookie comes elegantly packaged for the holidays and is the perfect solution to your gift giving needs. Plus, since you customize the message inside the cookie, you don't have to send a card! Add a family photo for $2.50. Mention the blog and get $5.00 off.

3. Alternative Gifts International offers a wide array of global gifts that can be given in the name of your friend or relative. Their partner organizations include 33 projects such as Fuel Efficient Stoves in El Salvador, Conquering Tuberculosis in North Korea, Literacy Training in Senegal, Land Mine Awareness in Vietnam or Organic Gardening in Belize.

4. 2007 Edition Swarovski Snowflake Ornament. It's crystal, it's beautiful, it's a unique ornament that will look great on their tree and be treasured in the years to come. What's not to love about this holiday gift. Besides, you can never have enough ornaments for your tree!

5. Gift Back. This site has lots of holiday ideas and options. The best part is, you pick the charity of your choice and they give 10% of the purchase price back to the charity you select. How great is that!

6. (Bonus Idea) Gift Cards. Okay, this one isn't new, but these days money can be tight. Not only can you get them a card to their favorite store so they can pick out the perfect holiday gift of their choice, but in a way gift cards can be a gift of time. Do you know a young married couple, or a couple that doesn't get to spend a ton of time together? I am sure they would love dinner for two at a good or romantic restaurant. Other ideas: maid service - be careful who you give that to! - gas cards, bookstores, Amazon, and golf courses.

Shocking 95% Direct Mail Response

The toughest job most businesses face today is reaching your prospect or target market with with your message. Whether your are trying to generate new business or get people to RSVP for a charity dinner, unless you stand out from the rest of the clutter your prospects will never see it. Let alone respond.

A dimensional mailer, think of an envelope with an ink pen in it, is one of the most effective ways to reach a prospect. I would highly suggest every business owner out there test some sort of dimensional mailer. An average mailer will generate an 8% response rate and ranks 2nd for Return On Investment. So what if you could get a 30% response, or even a 95% response rate?

Don't believe it's possible? Keep reading.

Pam Anderson - not of Baywatch fame - from the Indiana Roof Ballroom, one of the Midwest's premiere entertainment venues and banquet facilities, was looking for a unique way to promote its annual patron's dinner. She called us and decided to go with our "baby giant" fortune cookies to send out invitations to the event.

Here's the invitation:

The Astounding Results...

95% Of The 400 People Invited, Responded!!!

A local Indianapolis Star reporter who was covering the event couldn't believe the claims, so he talked to Pam and was shocked. Even though the RSVP date was over a month and a half away, 95% of the invitees had already responded.

Calling All Charities

Okay, I'm new to blogging, but thanks to one of our customers, yes you Jeffrey, we have put together this blog to give you some instant ideas on great uses for custom fortune cookies.

So for my first blog, I decided to start off big!

We do TONS of cookies every year for various charities. People like The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation, and many others. Not only do we give away thousands of cookies a year, but we also give discounts to charities. And most of our cookie colors go great with logo and event colors.

So if you are with a charity or organizing a charity event give me a call, mention the blog, and I will give you 10% off your order.

Most recently I got a call from Anna at Ronald McDonald House Charities who needed 400 chocolate dipped cookies for their Asian themed gala fundraiser dinner. They did 10 different messages and I have included a few samples below.
We make a living by what we get,
we make a life by what we give.

Children are the only form of
immortality that we can be sure of.

Generosity is one of
your outstanding traits.

Anna sent us a testimonial and here is what she had to say:
The cookies were excellent and added such a great effect to our Asian themed night. They not only tasted great, but we loved the chocolate dipped flavor. It adds a great touch to a normal fortune cookie. Your staff was very helpful, and we loved the fortunes we picked to have in the cookies! Nothing could have been better. Thank you!!!
